Dr. Mark Leopold has been practicing general dentistry in San Luis Obispo with his partner (and
brother-in-law) Nicholas Murphy, DDS, since 1977. After serving a tour in Vietnam, he attended
Cuesta College and Cal Poly. He received his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of
the Pacific in San Francisco. He continues to strengthen his skills by attending educational
courses on a regular basis. He and his son Dr. Ian Leopold completed a 1-year Fellowship
Program in Implant Dentistry with the California Implant Institute.
He holds membership in the local, state and national dental associations along with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Dr. Leopold and his wife, Christine, live in Avila Valley and enjoy spending time in their orchard and with their children Ian and Ashley, their granddaughters Sadie and Mia, and their labrador Archie.
Dr. Nicholas Murphy was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, graduated from Mission High School, attended Cuesta College and graduated from Cal Poly University. He received his doctorate in dental surgery from the University of California, San Francisco and has been practicing dentistry in SLO since 1977 with his brother-in-law, Dr. Mark Leopold.
Dr. Murphy has had extensive postgraduate training in cosmetic dentistry and dental rehabilitation with Pac-Live, University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. He has participated in a 2-year postgraduate course in Temporomandibular Disorders (TMJ) at the University of California, San Francisco, and has recently completed training in Cerec Restorations using the Omnicam Digital Impression system. Dr. Murphy is also a founding member of the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health.
Dr. Murphy has 3 children and 3 grandsons. Dr. Murphy’s daughter, Adria is a ceramist for the practice. His daughter Haley is a registered dental assistant, and assisted him for many years before starting her own business.
Dr. Craig Main completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his DDS at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He and his family returned to the Central Coast in 2003 to join the practice of Mark Leopold and Nicholas Murphy.
Dr. Main’s dedication to excellence in dentistry is evident by his commitment to continuing education. He has undergone extensive continuing education in the areas of orthodontics and endodontics to enable him to provide state-of-the-art care in both areas. He is also an associated member of the American Association of Endodontists. He is a certified Invisalign provider and has received extensive additional training on occlusion at UCLA.
Dr. Main also holds memberships in the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He has also participated in the Seattle Study Club, and has taken a two year comprehensive program in Orthodontics. Dr. Main values advanced technology and is very grateful that he has been given the opportunity to practice with three excellent clinicians in a state-of-the-art facility.
Dr. Ian Leopold has followed in family tradition, joining his father Dr. Mark Leopold and uncle Dr. Nicholas Murphy as a dentist in our San Luis Obispo practice in the fall of 2010.
Ian grew up in San Luis Obispo and received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Cal Poly. While attending school, he worked in our dental lab preparing crowns and other restorations.
He returned to the practice after graduating with honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 2010.
In addition to general and family dentistry, Ian has a special interest in the dental surgical disciplines. He completed the fellowship program with the California Implant Institute, and continued his education in advanced surgical techniques. Dr. Leopold is also proud to be the sole Novadontics Smile provider in all of San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Barbara counties.
In his spare time he enjoys being at home with his wife Jackie, two daughters Sadie and Mia, hiking, cooking, fishing, and playing tennis.
Dr. Thomaszadeh grew up in the San Fernando Valley of CA where she began her career in the field of dentistry as a dental assistant in 1999 and continued to do so for 9 years before attending New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry. She received her Bachelors in Biology prior to Dental School from UCLA in 2005.
Dr. Thomaszadeh was a volunteer dentist for the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT) where she provided ideal dental care at no cost for a group of survivors of torture and war traumas and their family members from around the world residing in the New York area. She deeply enjoys volunteering with different charities and groups in the central coast in her spare time.
When she’s not volunteering or treating patients Dr. Thomaszadeh loves to spend time camping and hiking all around the central coast.
